What Causes Swellinng In The Ankle And Leg After An Injury?
I got hit with a softball last Wednesday in the shin. The ball hit the inside area about half way between my ankle and knee. It initially swelled and bruised around the area hit. Now almost a week later my ankle is swollen and bruised on both sides. I walk without pain but with the ankle and leg swollen it is stiff. My wife is worried about a blood clot. Do you feel I need to been seen. I have pictures if interested.
I don't think there will be a clot. This swelling of the ankle is a normal physiological mechanism of the body.
Due to the hit, there will be inflammation of the fascia as the shin doesn't have many big muscles but the fascia most areas to cover it.
So due to the healing process of the fasica there will be expected some swelling.
Doing hot water fermentation and keeping the leg elevated should help reduce swelling. Also, ankle toe movements will help the muscle and fasica to achieve its normal physiological by movements.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
