What Causes Swollen Ankles And Fatigue Despite A Normal CT Scan?

77 year old woman released from hospital Tuesday with history of low blood pressure and dehydration. She now (on Thursday evening and today) has swollen ankles. All testing done at the hospital suggested that other than being a bit overweight, she was healthy. She takes thyroid medicine for hypothyroid condition. She complains of fatigue and some shortness of breath. He CT and x-ray showed no trace of pneumonia (she was hospitalized three weeks prior with double pneumonia). She called primary care physician but cant be seen until next week. Should we worry about Mom, or is this just a normal part of rehydrating (she claims to be drinking her water).

Pathologist and Microbiologist 's  Response
Hello,

The cause of swollen ankles needs to be found out.

Swollen ankles could be due to high blood pressure or low proteins in the blood.

I suggest you get blood protein and albumin.

In addition, I would suggest you discuss swelling in feet with your physician for clinical assessment.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
