What Causes Swollen Ankles And Feet After Placing A Pacemaker?

My Mom just had a pacemaker implanted on Tuesday. Since Friday, she has experienced swelling in her feet, ankles and calves. The feeling of tightness has somewhat subsided, but they are all still swollen. I called her surgeon earlier today, but I have not heard back yet. What can be done? Should we go to the ER? She is taking sotalol for blood pressure, pravastatin for cholesterol, synthroid for thyroid regulation and xarelto for blood thinning.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

It is not related to a pacemaker.

We have to rule out other causes like renal dysfunction or DVT.

Consult a physician and get evaluated. You have to get a venous Doppler for further evaluation.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Shinas Hussain,
