What Causes Swollen Glands On Throat And Difficulty In Swallowing?

Hi, for 2 days now I have had swollen glands at the back of my throat. It is painful to swallow, like it s bruised. I have been shivering cold even though the house is warm. At night when I try to sleep I go from hot and really sweatty to shivering cold again. My muscles ache a bit, like I have been doing a lot of physical work. That is all my symptoms. Any ideas as to what s wrong with me. In 3 days I am flying back to England from Australia so I d like to be well for that journey. Thanks

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

Noted the history about a person having shivering, swollen glands at the back of throat, painful swallowing, sweating at night, muscle aches, flying back to England from Australia after 3 days. All your symptoms sure suggestive of an active infection hence the sweating, shills and aches along with painful swallowing.

I would advise you to consult a doctor in Australia as you need an actual throat examination, swab for lab, tests of blood and urine. You may need a course of an antibiotic, anti-inflammatory medicine and gargles. Rest of the additional treatment, supportive and symptomatic management as per the findings.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. T. Chandrakant, General Surgeon
