What Causes Teeth Grinding And Mucus In The Mouth?
I had an old amalgam cavity changed a few years ago. Turns out the tooth was overbuilt. I've been told that I have bone loss and need the tooth extracted, should consider an implant but, would require a bone graft. I've never lost a tooth before and have dental phobia. I've consistently put this off. Recently I've been having aches, awake with a bit of blood and mucus in my mouth. I bit off a piece of this tooth during the night which makes me think I grind my teeth (a thought I've never had before). I do not see blood/mucus while I'm up and active but occasionally when I brush my teeth. Am to have it extracted Tues. meanwhile aches are getting worse and I'm afraid I may be swallowing mucus and may end up with a systemic infection. Any insight/advice would be appreciated greatly.
As per your complain it seems that you have deep infection in the tooth as well as the gums leading to pus formation..
The mucous and blood seems to be due to discharge coming out from the gums that gradually gets accumulated overnight in the mouth..
Pain is due to infection and inflammation only and as the tooth is already planned for extraction you need not to delay and get it extracted as the tooth with severe bone loss that it needs bone graft has no other option than extraction..
As of now to relieve pain you can take Ibuprofen for moderate pain while Tramadol or Ketorolac can relieve severe pain... Do warm saline gargles.. You should do cool compresses over the cheek to relieve inflammation.. Apply Lignocaine Gel over the gums to reduce pain..
Hope this helps..
Regards.
