Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Tenderness In Lower Abdomen Post Intercourse During Menstruation?
I am 43 years old. I was having intercourse on the 2nd day of my moon cycle and I stopped bleeding. I feel tender up around in my belly area and during intercourse, felt tender around where my cervix is. Could I have pushed the blood back into my cervix and could it be still there? Where did the blood go?
Tenderness in the lower abdomen after intercourse commonly occurs due to gastritis, acid reflux, bladder problem or UTI. You are suggested to get Urinalysis done to rule out UTI. If reports are positive you will be treated with antibiotics oral or intravenous as need be. Having sexual intercourse between periods can cause the periods to end sooner due to the expulsion of the blood faster as sexual intercourse causes uterine contractions.
Unprotected intercourse during periods has a very low chance of pregnancy but chances are not zero. If you continue to feel discomfort, get clinically examined by a gynecologist, get blood and urine tests done. Get managed at the earliest.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Nupur K., General & Family Physician
