I am a 51 year old female and in good health. I have not gone through menapause and in fact have regular monthly cycles like "clockwork". I recently went to my doctor for an annual physical and mentioned that my mom (age 90) had been diagnosed with ovarian cancer last year. My aunt (mom's sister) dies from ovarian cancer at age 79. So I asked if I was any kind of "risk" for ovarian cancer. She suggested we do the CA 125 and it came back with an elevated reading of 44 ( the lab said "normal" is 21 or less and internet articles say 35 or less). All other blood work was "superb" according to my doctor. I should note that I was menstruating the day my blood was drawn. I had other routine blood work done last August (2010) and that was all "normal and superb" as well. Now my doctor has scheduled me for a CT scan tomorrow of my abdomen and pelvis. I am so scared of what they may find. Do you think I have anything to be concerned about? Could the fact that I was "on my period" the day my blood was drawn have anything to do with the slight elevation. I have NO other symptoms of anything being wrong....and in fact, feel great. But the anxiety of thinking I now have some form of cancer is making me scared to death. Thank you.
