What Causes Thickening And Inflammation Of The Esophagus?
I had an endoscopy two weeks ago and the surgeon found that I have thickening and inflammation of of my esophagus. I have been taking Nexium for years and seems to help keep the Barets and hearburn, and other indigestion in control. what could these findings mean.Nancy Jermine
Hello and welcome to HCM, The thickened and inflamed esophagus needs to be biopsied to examine the esophagus microscopically. Biopsy and microscopic examination is necessary to look for evidence of infection, dysplasia or neoplasm. Thickening of esophagus raised the possibility of dysplastic or malignant change and this change has to be ruled out. Thus, consult your gastroenterologist for biopsy and thus further management if required.
