What Causes Throbbing Feeling In Right Ear?

my 14 year old son has been complaining about a sort of throbbing in his right ear, not as deep as in the ear canal, no sound, and it has been going on for a week, on and off, and on especially at night before bed. He is concerned about it and afraid to go to sleep. What could this be caused by?

ENT Specialist 's  Response
Hello,
Throbbing pain during night in young boy without any sound and ear discharge seems to be because of infection in the bone behind the ear.
This is called as coalescent mastoiditis.
You need to get done an ent consultation for broad spectrum antibiotic and antihistaminic, decongestant tablets and nasal drops, anti inflammatory medicines and enzymes .
The infection takes around 2 weeks time for the pain to completely settle down.
It is the infection which occurs in the middle part of ear and spreads to the mastoid bone .
In doubt do reply
