Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I am getting a tingling sensation in my legs. From my calfs down to my ankles. Occurs when I sit and put my legs up on the coffee table or the couch. Also occurs when I get into bed at night. I do not get this feeling when I m at the gym at work or sitting in a chair. Only seems to be when I put my legs up as I sit.
The tingling sensation in legs is often caused by the posture. Postural habits that put pressure on nerves or reduce blood flow in the lower limbs are the most common cause of temporary numbness in the legs and feet.
If this symptom is frequent and persistent it can be related to specific conditions. Long-term numbness or a tingling feeling in the legs and feet can be caused by Diabetes (Diabetic neuropathy), Tarsal tunnel syndrome, Herniation of spinal cord and sciatica, peripheral artery diseases or alcohol abuse.
Considering that you have this symptom when you get into bed at night, I suggest that it can be a postural habit that puts too much pressure on your nerves or reduces your blood flow in your lower extremities.Wearing pants, socks, or shoes that are too tight can trigger this symptom.
Anyway, if the symptom persist, i suggest to consult a local physician because it is necessary to do some blood works and tests (like ENMG test)to check for the right diagnosis and treatment.
Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Elona Xhardo, Endocrinologist
