Hi,
I have the following suggestions.
Your symptoms could include 2 possibilities
1. Cervical spondylosis
2. Trapezitis.
I don't consider the 1st possibility as an option in you in view of:
a. your history as a gymnast
b. your pain tolerance- it doesnt usually cause unbearable pain.
c.
radiation of pain to both sides- it is usually one sided.
Still it is a very common cause and so I suggest testing a
MRI cervical spine. I feel the possibility of trapezitis more. Reasons being you were an active gymnast- gymnasts usually have strong shoulder and back muscles. Now when they stop the musculature, in a way stiffens, thereby causing discomfort. Bilateral pain and the thing moving in back can be explained by this diagnosis as well.
It needs good
physiotherapy to settle this condition. I have tried to make this simple. Please do understand that examination of a patient is a very essential step.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Wish you good health.
Regards,
Dr. Ivan R. Rommstein, General Surgeon
