What Causes Tingling Sensation In The Left Hand>

Hi, I am a 51 year old woman, reasonably healthy, but have gained 15 pounds in five years and I am 4'10" -- for last 10 days I have experienced persistent tingling in my left hand and now it is in my arm. I am getting worried...I have a family doctor but I don't really like him and have ignored this (was on vacation), now think this might be something. I spend much much time sitting at a desk and typing ... what could this possibly be and what is your advice? Thank you, whoever you are, for responding.

concerns and I will try to help you as much as I can.

Yes, weight gain may definitely worsen the symptoms but these symptoms are usually caused by damage, irritation or compression of one of the nerves or a branch of one of the nerves in your arm and shoulders.

Diseases affecting the peripheral nerves, such as diabetes, also can cause numbness, although with diabetes similar symptoms usually occur first in your feet.

However, your symptoms indicate that there is compressive neuropathy which is seen in carpal canal syndrome or cubital syndrome. You need to do EMG first to confirm diagnosis and then it can be treated with local steroid shots or surgical decompression. Also, physical therapy may be beneficial.

I hope I have answered you query. If you have any further questions you can contact us in every time.
Kindly regards. Wish you a good health.
