What Causes Tingling Sensation In The Legs And Heaviness In The Chest?

My daughter had been taking trial/hctz for two years. Suddenly she had a heart event including, heavy feeling in her chest, legs and arms tingling, & profuse sweating. She was rushed to the emergency by ambulance. After blood work being done, she was admitted to the hospital and was scheduled a heart cath the next day. Thankfully, her arteries were clear, heart muscle strong and was given great report from cardiologist. Conclusion. Her potassium level was extremely low and (treated prior to heart cath), from taking the trial/hctz 37/25. She was taken off the medicine. Why after being on it two years did this happen?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

This indicates peripheral neuropathy which is a result of damage to your peripheral nerves, often causes weakness, numbness and pain, usually in your hands and feet. It can also affect other areas of your body.

Treatment actually depends on the right cause. Most common causes are diabetes, alcoholism, inherited disorders or trauma and medications.

However, many other causes may be seen so tests are required to identify the right one.

Till that you can do some general remedies: Avoid factors that may cause nerve damage, including repetitive motions, cramped positions, exposure to toxic chemicals, smoking and overindulging in alcohol.

Also, take vitamin D supplemets and regulate blood sugar levels.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Ivan R. Rommstein, General Surgeon
