General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

The abnormal sensations that you are describing are due to neuropathy which refers to the abnormal function of the nerves. It can be temporary or permanent and there are different causes. Some of the more common causes include- diabetes, thyroid disease, low levels of vitamin B12 or folate, kidney or liver disease, abnormal levels of vitamin B6, side-effects of medication, autoimmune disease, trauma. It would be best to be assessed. This would include the history of all symptoms, examination, blood tests and imaging. Treatment would depend on the cause found.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Michelle Gibson James
