What Causes Tingling Sensation In The Right Thigh Upon Coughing?
Sometimes when I m driving and cough, it feels like my right thigh is being shocked...first time it happened, was 15 years ago and thought maybe it was just the car but it has happened like a dozen times since and different vehicles. What could this be?

General & Family Physician, Dr. Vasudha's Response
Hello,
Coughing strong gives jerks to the body. It gives jerks to the hip region and sciatic notch as well, compressing sciatic nerve going through the notch to cause pain in the thigh (being supplied by the nerve). This can be confirmed by MRI, followed by specific treatment (physiotherapy, medicines, steroid injections).
Hope I have answered your query.
Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Vasudha Jayant Athavale,
