Hi, I ve recently had a full thyroid op done at age 34, but before my op I kept having this throbbing whooshing sound behind my right ear. When I press down on the neck area just below the ear the noise stops. When someone presses their ear against mine they can also ear the noise. Gets worse with stress and sometimes I get extremely nauseous. Have had an MRI done they couldn t find anything. Sonar picked up the 6 nodules on my thyroid. The noise is driving me crazy.
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
Probably thyroid deficiency may lead to sensorineural hearing loss with tinnitus. Also, check for eustachian tube blockade or dysfunction.
Possibilities like trauma to the tube during general anesthesia or pharyngotonsillitis may present like this.
Use water vapor inhalation and do salt water gargle thrice a day for five days. Please consult your ENT specialist so that he will examine and treat you accordingly.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Penchila Prasad Kandikattu
