What Causes Tinnitus During 32 Weeks Of Pregnancy?

Hi, I am 32 weeks pregnant and last week started experiencing tinnitus. I went to my pcp and she told me to take Claritin and that she felt it should clear up by Monday. She had looked in my ears and said they were fine but that I did have some congestion when she looked in my nose. I took the Claritin yesterday and after about 2 hrs I noticed a significant decrease in the ringing in my ears. My question is should I relax and know that since the Claritin worked the tinnitus is linked to congestion....I am terrified that the tinnitus will come back and be permanent. I still have a slight ringing but it s barley noticeable. I feel gripped by fear and anxiety that it will come back.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Claritin is an antihistamine medication. It is commonly used to treat allergies and also tinnitus.

In your case, Claritin helped with the congestion. In case that you feel tinnitus again, you can use again Claritin. It doesn't have any effect on pregnancy.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
