Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I woke up this morning with muffled hearing and ear ringing in my right ear. It has not gone away and it s now night. The muffled hearing causes slight hearing loss and fluctautes. It eases when when sitting and gets worse when standing. My ear is also slightly numb. There is no pain or drainage. Should I wait for my appointment in the morning or is this something more serious?
Hello, Thanks for posting your query in HealthCareMagic, Tinnitus is always described as a constant humming or ringing in the ears. It is not usually associated with any underlying serious condition. Some factors that may cause tinnitus: - due to aging - otosclerosis ( where bony changes happen in the ear) - Is also seen in a condition called as Meniere's disease - can arise due to undue exposure to trauma like loud noise I would suggest you to consult with an ENT specialist for a proper examination and any further management in the coming morning. Meanwhile it would be at your best to avoid factors that may exacerbate your present condition, like swimming, exposure to loud noise.
Hope this helps Kindly revert back for any further queries in the future. Thank you
