What Causes Tiredness And Brain Fog In A Person With Hypothyroid?

I am hypothyroid with normal tsh lecels and still feel tired in the afternoons and have brain fog. I have gained 20 pounds in about 4 years eating the same way I always have. Synthroid helps a little but doesnt take all the symptoms away. Is there anything I can do to feel better?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

Since TSH levels are normal indicates that the pituitary is noticing the T4 and T3 levels in circulating blood normally. You should stop Synthroid for a few days, then only get full thyroid functions done in the form of
Free T3, Free T4 and TSH to see whether the thyroid is working normally and whether the dosages of Synthroid are sufficient or whether to increase the dose.
Also, needed is to find the other causes of your symptoms like anemia, hypoproteinemia, any other diseases or disorders and get treated accordingly.
Also needed is to see for any anxiety or stress. if present should be avoided as these can be one of the most important reasons.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. T Chandrakant, General Surgeon
