What Causes Tremors In The Fingers While On Topamax?

I started low dose of Topamax 50-100mg per day for wt loss ~ four months ago. I developed a finger tremor that resembles a parkinson tremor. I did not have this tremor prior to start of Topamax and developed it approximately one month ago while taking Topamax. I stopped the topamaxfour days ago as a possible etiology for the finger tremor. In my research, I realize there is Drug induced parksinsons that should hopefully resolved within weeks to months with stopping medicine. My concern is that the topamax use was only four months. What are your thoughts?

Hello,

Tremors are not very common side effects of Topamax. On the other hand, it is important to stop using certain drugs if the tremor started after their use and see if this will help. So, I would encourage you to continue not using it.
I would also discuss this with your doctor and also report this possible side effect of Topamax.

If the symptoms do not improve in a month after stopping Topamax then you will need a visit with the doctor to determine the cause of the tremors.
