Hello,

Benicar HCT (olmesartan medoxomil-hydrochlorothiazide) is used to treat hypertension. You have not mentioned your husband's past illness or disease history. Benicar HCT is a combination of an angiotensin II receptor antagonist and a thiazide diuretic (water pill). Your husband has been taking this medicine since a along time (4 years) and now he is experiencing tremors, seizures etc. Your husband is suggested to report these symptoms to his treating doctor so that a follow up clinical examination can be done and medicine replaced by some other medicine that suits him better.

In rare cases it has been reported that Hydrochlorothiazide and Olmesartan cause breakdown of skeletal muscle tissue, leading to kidney problems. In case of loss of co ordination, weakness, numbness, tingling, limp feeling, muscle spasm or tremor; you should get connected to your treating doctor urgently. Other medical conditions that may cause similar symptoms are neurological disorder, essential tremor, PAD, etc. You should get NCV tests and Imaging (CT / MRI / EMG) tests done. You will be treated according to the diagnosis made. Get treated at the earliest.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Nupur K., General & Family Physician
