What Causes Upper Abdominal Pain And Brown Vaginal Discharge Post Sigmoidoscopy?
I had a flexible sigmoidoscopy yesterday, diagnosed with diverticular disease. Last night & today I have pain higher up my abdomen than usual, particularly if I bend over. I have also had a brownish vaginal discharge although I am post menopause. I had the same discharge (minor) after a CT scan with contrast last month. I was originally referred to a gynae 9 months ago due to post menopausal bleeding & sharp left hand side abdominal pain but no problems found other than a fibroid (6 cm). Is a vaginal discharge after a flex Sig normal? I am 54.

Usually After A Flex. Sigmoidoscopy you may have mild abdominal discomfort. You may feel bloated or pass gas for a few hours
You may also notice a small amount of blood with your first bowel movement after the exam, which usually isn't cause for alarm.
Consult your doctor if you continue to pass blood or blood clots or if you have persistent abdominal pain or a fever of 100 F (37.8 C) or higher
As Far as Vaginal Discharge is concern it is not possible unless there is perforation into vagina during procedure and is rare
but as you said you had a fibroid (6cm) and
Abnormal uterine bleeding is the most common symptom of a fibroid so i would strongly suggest you to see a Gynecologist to rule out any underlying medical condition
