What Causes Upper Respiratory Infection?

I feel like my upper chest near throat is like after a child has a seal cough. Its dry...hardly any mucus. I worry it has something to do with my heart. I have had this for about a month. I went to the Emergency twice and doctor said it was just an upper respiratory infection. They gave me medicine for it. But I still feel the same. What could it be?????
