Hi,I am Dr. Subhankar Chakraborty (Gastroenterologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Urination Difficulty After Ileoanal Anastomosis With Ileostomy?
Good evening. I had an ileo-anal anastomosis (j-pouch) with my ileostomy takedown 6 wks ago this Thursday. I have had difficulty urinating. I am unable to urinate most of the time unless I empty my pouch (neo-rectum) out first. I am 43 yo. I had my ileostomy approx 6 mos. Can you tell me why I'm having difficulty urinating and how long this can take to resolve to where I can urinate in a more normal manner? I would guess the answer has to do with slight atrophy of the anal sphincter muscle due to lack of use for about 6 mos. Thank you
If this is the neurological cause for which you are facing the difficulty in voiding then it has to be taken under consideration, more over it is over all depends upon the etiology or pathology you have.
Damage to the neuron system which innervated to bladder could cause the difficulty in voiding beside this if this is the inflammatory condition of bladder then also it can cause the voiding difficulty.
Such case need complete case assessment or study with clinical examination without these difficulties to say anything for sure; you can see the Urologist for further discussion and management.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Akhtarhusain
