What Causes Vaginal Bleeding After Taking A Morning After Pill?
Hello. I had unprotected sex with my boyfriend on the 4th day of my period. He pulled out. To be safe I took the morning after pill within 18 hours of sex. I had bleeding 1-2 days after taking it and then what felt like my period a few days after that. Although that would be two weeks early. Is that common ? And does it sound like the pill is working or should I be worried?
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
Suggestive of withdrawal bleeding. Morning after pill contains high dose of hormone progesterone and this leads to hormone imbalance resulting in withdrawal bleeding. Most women will have a normal period at the expected time, but some may have their period later or earlier than normal. You might also have some irregular bleeding or spotting until your next period. If your period is unusually light or unusually heavy you should contact your doctor as soon as possible.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
