What Causes Vaginal Bleeding And Abdominal Cramps Post Depo Shot?

Hi, I m a 22 year old female. I had my first Depo shot on October 22. They did a pregnancy test before giving me the shot and it was negative. I was supposed to get my period around the 11th of this month but I just started it two days ago on the 24th. I ve been having abdominal cramps and today I passed two big fleshy, bloody chunks. I assumed this is all side effects of Depo but I searched around on some health websites and kept seeing the word miscarriage. In October I did have a lot of unprotected sex with my boyfriend before getting the shot (he would usually pull out). Is there some possibility that the pregnancy test they did was wrong, I was pregnant, and I started Depo and am now having a miscarriage?

Hi

Breakthrough bleeding, spotting, and changes to menstrual flow are some of the most common side effects during the first year of use. Some irregular bleeding or spotting during the early months of Depo therapy typically means that the body is adjusting to the medication.

Ibuprofen and other nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) can help reduce the inflammation and pain that may come with abnormal uterine bleeding.

If irregular bleeding becomes heavy or threatens health by increasing the risk of anemia, visit your gynaecologist.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
