Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have a separate hymen and it recently broke in half during sex. I didn t feel it break at all and it wasn t painful until an hour later. It was bleeding a decent amount too. It s been a day and I keep getting a light brownish/light reddish dishcharge. Is it normal? How long until it will stop, and how do I know if it s infected?
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
Bleeding does happen at the first instance when the hymen breaks. It may happen subsequently also if there are some remnant tissues present. However, reddish or brownish discharge can continue for a couple of days more which can be due to fresh bleeding or if the blood is retained for sometime and then comes out. This can be considered as normal. If there is infection present, then the discharge would be copious, continuous and foul smelling. It may be accompanied by symptoms like itching. Kindly keep the area under good hygiene. Gradually, it will be back to normal.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
