Hi,I am Dr. Santosh Kondekar (Pediatrician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My six month old son had a very raspy chest and vomited alot up to the age of 4 months when i changed him to a lactose free formula. I can always tell if he has had lactose because his chest will become raspy again but i have tried him on a little bit of soy milk in his cereal and he has reacted to that. Just confused as i thought soy didnt have lactose in it. The only ingredient i can see that he might have reacted to is calcium phosphate. Should i get him tested to find out the exact intolerance as he becomes very upset.
Hi, welcome to HCM. A 4 week baby with rapsy chest on taking lactose milk formula is definitely an allergic reaction. This could be cow milk allergy. The fact that it also appears on giving soya milk, has made us to think of some other allergen than lactose. Calcium phosphate usually don't cause allergic reaction. I advice you to change the brand of lactose free milk and if this problem still persists then get a complete blood count with esr levels and ige levels in blood. Further treatment will depend on above reports. Revert back with above reports and exact weight of child. Take care.
