What Causes Warm, Hard, Painful Lump In The Area Of Having IV On Arm?

My father has a half inch hard lump about 2 inches above where he had an IV in 24 hours ago. He states that it hurts to the touch, doesn t look swollen, but is slightly warmer than the rest of his arm. His IV was located in the right antecubital. He had fluids, blood and iron infused at that IV site. Is this concerning?

HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

The lump is likely due to the trauma from the infusion.

If there is no reason against it, he may want to consider the use of anti inflammatory pain medication such as ibuprofen, cataflam, naproxen.

One of these would help to reduce the pain and swelling you are experiencing.

If the warmth , swelling and pain remains then this may indicate infection, so you can monitor.

I hope this helps
