Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Weakened Motor Control, Weakness And Unsteady Gait?
I ve been experiencing motor control, weakness, and staggering with my lower limbs. Recently had a synovial cyst removed between C7 and T1 and expected recovery. Has helped some but done nothing for lower body extremities. No pain in back or lower limbs except get tired from prolong walk as when working my way through a box store. Had Lumbar MRI last Monday that identified severe narrowing at L3-L4 and L4-L5. Back to neurologist for lower extremity nerve function test tomorrow. Neurologist advises against further surgery and probably will recommend epidural steroid injections. Any advise. I m 72 and have been fairly active until 4 months ago when all this stuff started.
* The weakness of motor control and unsteady gait indicates possible compression of nerves or cauda equina at lower lumbar regions.
* The epidural steroid shots will help to relieve the underlying tissue edema and compression to some extent and surgery will be the last resort if conservative therapy fails.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel
