Hi,I am Dr. Santosh Kondekar (Pediatrician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My 9 year old daughter (10 in August) has always been heavy for her height since being very tiny. She eats healthily and takes plenty of exercise both in school and out but her weight remains a problem, in particular, around her middle. She has rolls of fat that have an orange peel (cellulite) look to them.
She is now becoming aware of the fact that her body shape is unusual for a girl her age and the constant struggle for clothes is really upsetting her.
Is anyone in, or has been in, a similar situation who could offer me some re-assurance? I am planning to contact her school nurse initially for some advice, now that my daughter has raised the issue herself
Thanks for asking on healthcaremagic. Childhood obesity is a growing concern as it is on the rise and your child is not the only one with it. For fat (stored food) to accumulate, the amount of energy taken in needs to be greater than the total amount of energy spent for various activities. Although genetic factors may be present, the dietary habits and lifestyle still need modification and is beyond the scope of a simple public forum question as much more needs to be asked and discussed. Electrical muscle stimulation therapy may be of help.
Hope that answers your query. Feel free to revert back with further queries if any.
