What Causes Weight Increase When On Birth Control Pills?

Hi, I am 17 years old, 5'6'' and weigh 126 pounds. i have been on birth control for about 5 weeks. I have noticed and increase in weight (my weight before birth control was 117 pounds) and acne (face and back). My reasons for birth control are for a contraceptive as well as my irregular period. The name of my medication is Tri-Sprintec and I don't think I was prescribed the lowest dosage. I am extremely active (I play on a highly competitive soccer team and aside from that i run up to four miles a day). I also have healthy eating habits that have not changed since first beginning the pill. I am wondering if i should stop birth control all together because I don't like the side effects at all, or should I change the medication? Will it have the same side effects? Thank you so much.
