What Causes Weight Loss, one Sided Headaches And Numbness?

My friend has been to many doctors about symptoms of losing over 40 pounds, constant body vibrations, especially after eating, warm showers and warm temperatures. She also has one sided severe headaches, muscle spasms, weakness, depression, sensations of heat under the skin on the legs, numbness and tingling in the legs, and hair loss. She went to Germany on vacation and had a viral illness before this started. She now has Hashimoto s antebodies and a goiter that she s been told is not big enough to biopsy. Adrenal, brain, pituitary hormones have all been checked. She just recently had a cervical fusion anteriorly with the neurosurgeon thinking that would help due to stenosis and bone spur, but even weeks out, symptoms have remain the same. Please give any advice.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Your friend is suffering from weakness, muscle spasms, numbness and tingling. It is indicative of peripheral neuropathy. Get her clinically examined by a neurologist. Get NCV tests, imaging tests, blood analysis, etc., done so that the treatment can be started urgently. She should take Vitamin B6, B12 or supplements for better nerve health. She is also suffering from one sided headache and weight loss.

It is due to tension headache or migraine. She is suggested to stay away from stressful lifestyle, anxiety and tensions. Stay well hydrated to maintain sodium potassium balance. Stay away from strong smell, pollution, maintain normal vitals like BP and blood glucose. Take food in time, do not skip meals.

Take home made nutritious diet rich in iron, calcium, proteins and vitamins. You can also take supplements. Slowly she will gain weight. Get a complete medical examination done. Get all investigations and imaging tests done to detect the pathology causing discomfort. Get treated at the earliest.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Nupur K., General & Family Physician
