What Causes Yellow, Smelly Liquid Coming From Ears?
I have a clear sometimes yellow smelly liquid coming from my ears. I have suffered with my ears when I was a child and also as a teenager I am now 54 years of age. I also have very little hearing out of the ear I did go to my doctors last time I had it and was given antibiotics and told it was glue ear but why does it keep coming back?
From the history given here it seems that it is a case of suppurative otitis media, acute or chronic, with tympanic membrane perforation. The fluid coming out of the ear is likely to be pus. Glue ear also known as secretory otits media is common in children and in most cases it resolves on its own without any treatment. In tympanic membrane perforation, if the perforation is small conservative treatment in the form of anitibiotics and anti inflammatory drugs are given. Consult an ENT surgeon to rule out tympanic membrane perforation.
