Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Could A Red Spot In Anus On A Scan Report Indicate?
My mother had a pet scan after being diagnosed with oesophegeal cancer. Apparently the scan has shown a red spot in the anus. She does have haemmoroids and she did strain on the toilet an hour or two before going to the scan. She had bowel cancer in 1999 and had surgery with no need for any follow-up treatment, but she had a colonoscopy in November and was discharged again. Could you tell me if the red spots can mean other things beside cancer?
A red spot in anus is highly suggestive of hemorrhoids or piles. However, since there is history of bowel cancer, biopsy from the red spot is suggested to rule out cancer.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
