What Could Be Mucus Associated Greenish Yellow Frequent Pooping In A 3 Months Old Child?
My 3 month old is exclusively breastfed. 1 week ago she went from pooping every other day and sometimes every third day, to now pooping all the time like up to 10 dirty diapers. (This is my 3rd child exclusively breast fed). It has also changed color and smell from yellow to greenish yellow, it is mucusy and smells like burnt rubber. I am assuming it is a bug as my older dd has had gastroenteritis for 3days(vomiting only). But this has been going on for a week. Should we go to dr?
I am so sorry to hear about the diarrhea your child has. Diarrhea in infants is mostly caused by viruses. This would be more likely as there is one of your children also has this. the best approach to management is making sure the child continues to eat well and drink much fluids so as not to get dehydrated. If vomiting or excess stools should cause the child to loose weight, urinate less, become weak, then you should rush to the hospital for help.
At times, the diarrhea may be caused by another germ that needs drugs to treat. if this be the case, you would note a progressive deteriorations and this should prompt a consultation for stool testing and treatment.
