What Could Be The Cause Of Increased Heart Rate?

My 20 yr. old daughter was sitting in a waiting room & her heart rate started increasing suddenly. She then began to feel dizzy and could feel her heart rate increasing even more. They checked her in the ER and her heart rate was at 137. They monitored her for about an hr and when they rechecked her heart rate it was at 40! They waited about 15 mins to recheck and it was 75. What would be causing this at an at rest position? The only thing that has changed in her meds was her ritalin was decreased a few days ago.

Hello! Thank you for asking on HCM! Regarding your concern I would recommend to exclude heart rhythm disorders first. An ambulatory ECG monitoring would help to clarify that issue. If heart rhythm abnormalities are ruled out, and we are facing with just a heart rate up and down, but persistent normal sinus rhythm, that i would investigate on ritalin dose titration adequacy and possible complications. You should discuss wit hthe prescribing doctor about this latter issue.
Hope to have been helpful to you. Greetings! Dr. Iliri
