What Could Be The Cause Of Intermittent Bleeding In The Nostril Considering Having High BP?

I have been bleeding from my right nostril off and on every month and now every two weeks. I am 47 years old and have had hypertension for twenty-two and have been taking beta blocker labetalol I started on 50 mg and now I take 300 mg daily for hypertension for twenty-two years now. It started in May of this 2013. I think I had picked my right nostril with my fingernail once or twice that time and then a day later it started bleeding. And it has continued to bleed most often now every two weeks from my right nostril. ,My blood pressue als continues to be high most everyday 175 over 105 most often even taking the 300mg labetalol medicine. Do you know what could be causing my right nostril to bleed like this.

Hi. Welcome to HCM. High blood pressure is a very common condition in men of your age, and it is important to diagnose and treat it if it is present as it predisposes to heart disease and stroke later in life. High blood pressure has many symptoms but the most common symptom is .... nothing! This is what makes high blood pressure the 'silent killer'. When the blood pressure is very high, there can be a number of symptoms, such as chest pain, palpitations, headache, blurry vision, swelling of the legs, and rarely nose bleeds. Even after taking labetolol 300 mg your BP is still high. I advice u to consult your treating doctor and he may change the drug. High BP can cause nose bleeding, but it is rare with Your BP readings. There are probably other more likely explanations for your nosebleeds, such as periodic drying out of the lining of the nasal passages, especially during cold weather. Diagnosis and the management of your particular condition will require a physical examination by your personal physician. An ENT specialist consultation may also be necessary. Regards
