What Could Be The Meaning Of The Result Of Brain MRI?
Hi, I had an MRI of the Brain on 11/15/13. Findings: Some minimal T2 high signal in the periventricular white matter and there are multiple small nodular foci of T2 high signal scattered in the subcortical white matter of the cerebral hemispheres and some central patchy T2 high signal in the posterior pontine white matter and white matter high signal has increased when compared to 9/27/2004 compatible with interval progression of mild small vessel disease.
What are your feelings on these findings? Also, should I be concerned about the carotid artery?

FLAIR or T2 weighted hyper intensities less than five in number in deep white matter of brain can be ignored.
Mostly it is due to ischemic changes(decreased blood supply) that involves small blood vessels.However demyelination,lyme disease should also be ruled out with follow up scans.
Hyper intensities more than five in number should be the cause of concern and it need investigations.
You need monitoring of conditions that leads to ischemic changes like hypertension,altered lipid profile,diabetes mellitus.
You need investigations like routine hemogram,RBS,LFT,RFT,Lipid profile,ultrasound of abdomen.
If there is any more physical problems then it should be treated.
Carotid artery changes are also due to hypertension.
