What Could Be The Reason Behind Dull Pain From The Bottom Of Buttock Down The Back Of My Right Leg To Calf Area?
For over one month, I have a dull pain from the bottom of my buttock down the back of my right leg to calf area. it started just hurting while sitting, but now I notice it standing/walking. I am 5'2'; 104 lbs and smoke about 1/2 - 3/4 pack of cigarettes per day. I am 55 years old. I run, play singles tennis, and take no prescriptions. Appreciate any help/advice you can provide... Mary
Hi Mary. This looks to be classical sciatica pain where the nerves are trapped in the lower spinal levels. I would advise you to undergo an MRI of lower spine to know the extent of compression on the spinal cord and visit a Neurosurgeon to ascertain the management - medical or surgical , and will depend upon your symptoms , the findings on physical examination and fitness. I am afraid to say you have to stop playing tennis till your neurosurgeon gives you go-ahead. NO bending of back. avoid constipation. I hope you do not have weakness in any of the lower limbs ( difficult to know as it is slowly progressive) Please feel free to come back to us with your reports.
