What Could Be The Reason For Having A Painful Burning Sensation In My Left Ankle?
I am 62 yrs old. Usually about 3 or 4 hours after going to bed, I awaken to a painful burning sensation in my left ankle. If I get out of bed and stand on it, the pain stops in less than a minute. When I lie down again, the pain begins again within 30-40 mins. What are possible causes?
From your history and symptoms, peripheral neuropathy could be the most common cause leading to painful burning sensation. Other possibilities include circulation problem or diabetic neuropathy. If there are any other symptoms associated, other diagnoses can be thought of. Nutrition improvement along with Vit B-complex tablets could improve the present problem.
If it is a circulation problem, detailed evaluation is necessary. Try keeping the limb at a much lower level to see if reduces. If yes, probably a circulation problem.
If you have any other associated chronic disorders or drug therapy - complications or side effects needs to be looked into.
Hope I have answered your query. If you have any further questions, I will be happy to help
