What Could Be The Reason For Having High Esr And Crp Levels?

Hi, I have had high levels of esr and crp for the last year or so and my doctor thinks it is because I have hypothyroidism and he cant explain anything more to me. My esr reading was 40 and my crp reading was 22. Do you have an idea of what may be going on?

Hello,
I have gone through your query and understand your concern.

You have to understand that there are plenty of causes for Raised ESR and CRP.

These elevated parameters just indicate that you have a inflammation or tissue damage or malignancy or anemia or some connective tissue disorder or arthritis in your body.
As your doctor suspected, you may have hypothyroidism by Hashimoto's thyroiditis provided your thyroid profile is abnormal.

If your thyroid profile is normal, then we have to investigate further to identify the cause for these elevated ESR and CRP.

Before you start to investigate, you need the thorough general examination by your treating physician. Because clinical findings will help in co-relation with the investigations and lead to diagnose the cause.

Depending on the cause, treatment varies. For example, if the Raised parameters are due to Tuberculosis ( Infection and inflammation), you need Antituberculosis drugs for 6 to 9 months.

Hope this helps.
Please write back for further queries.
Wishing you good health.
