Hi.
Thanks for your query.
Noted the history and understood your concerns.
Noted that your 6 year old son has finished his antibiotic for strep throat, now throwing up, watery stools, and smells like sulphur very badly, no fever, strange flesh colored rash on stomach, advised clear liquids and Motrin by the Doctor.
As per the history you have provided, the rash may be due to
gastroenteritis secondary to antibiotics changing the bacterial flora, the rash is secondary to bacterimia or septicemia.
The gastroenteritis could have been due to bacterial infection from throat reaching intestines also.
I would advise you the following in such a situation.
Take a
second opinion of another
Pediatrician.
end stool sample for tests and culture and sensitivity.
Send blood for: CBC, Widal,
blood culture.
May need an antibiotic active against intestinal infection; probiotics, symptomatic and supportive medicines.
If the diarrhea is not controlled the boy may go into dehydration,
electrolyte imbalance and complications, in such a case if anticipated, needs admission to the hospital for proper investigations and management.
