What Could Be The Reason For On And Off Knee Pain While Running And Also Any Other Time In An Athlete?

This is my second year running high school cross country/track and over the last few months I ve noticed that my knees have started hurting. the pain moves, and is not too severe as in it is not restricting my running much at all. some days it will be in one knee and not the other and vice versa, some days both. I usually don t notice any pain during the day. the pain is usually upper inside of my knee, and ranges to the lower inside and the lower outside on a wide range around the kneecap put not under it. It s rare that it hurts in the of the knee back or on the outside. I m wearing knee straps on both knees and I can t exactly tell if it s helping. my knees usually hurt at the beginning of the run, and tend to be unnoticeable during the run. once I m part way though cool down they usually start hurting again. (side note: had very slight discomfort in my right hip earlier in the year and more recently in my left shin, but both passed relatively quickly) In the last few months I have made a quick leap in my training, as I went from the middle of the team to varsity in one week. That was in September, and my knees began to hurt around then, but I m not sure if it s related. I run a lot of hills and concrete, and only run on grass around 1/2 the time. I took two weeks off after cross country season ended (during which my knees seemed to hurt equally as much, if not more as during the season) and came back almost three weeks ago. Any ideas as to what this could be? My sports doctor did not know. Thanks!

Your knee pain is related to running.Minimum you should go for x-ray of knee joint. If bone and joint space problem rulled out then go for MRI to identify ligament problem. With result you can consult orthopaedic surgeon. You may need physiotherapy with some medication.
