Hi,Ig or
immunoglobulins are proteins produced in the body in response to infection. Positive IgM levels indicate a recent infection, while positive
IgG levels indicate a past infection and resulting immunity. The above infections increase the chances of
miscarriage, foetal deformities and preterm labour when acquired during
pregnancy and this screen is done to detect any recent infection being the cause of a bad pregnancy outcome. The results of your wife's tests read as following - 1) Toxoplasma- no past or recent infection. 2) Rubella- past infection causing lifelong immunity and protection. 3) CMV- past infection with life long immunity and protection. 4)HSV- no past or recent infection. 5) Chlamydia- no recent or past infection. So none of these infections are responsible for your latest pregnancy loss. Causes of miscarriage vary for the period of pregnancy at which loss occurs, symptoms or
ultrasound reports preceeding it and any physical or emotional
stress associated. However, the most common cause in the first 3 months of pregnancy are genetic defects in the embryo. Firstly, after 2 abortions, your wife should have a detailed investigation to find out the reasons by a qualified gynaec. Secondly, she should start taking
folic acid tablets 5mg once a day for 3 months preceeding conception continuing upto the first 3 months of pregnancy as it has been found to reduce the chances of genetic defects in the foetus. Thirdly, during the first 3 months of her next pregnancy she should avoid physical or emotional stress, sex or any long distance travel. I will be available to answer any further queries you may have.
