What Could Be The Reasons For Having Breathing Problem And Low BP After Back Surgery?
My brother just had back surgery this morning. He now is having extreme difficulty breathing and has a large amount of phlegm. His blood pressure dropped significantly. Now he is in ICU. They have done a CAT scan - nothing showed up. Any ideas anyone?

Low blood pressure and copd, that is lung infection at later stages causes lung hypoperfusion and decreased cardiac output
It usually ocurs in later stages of diseases, not as a complication of back surgery
Some times it might occur as post surgical complication when there is decreased response of corticosteroids to secrete adrenaline and nor adrenaline, sympethetic outflow
Advised to check adrenal hormones
