hello! i would like to know about the possible outcome of my test that had been done here in the Philippines. Back 2008, i was checked by my physician and requested to do chest x-ray. My chest x-ray showed that i have a minimal koch infection in my right upper lobe. My doctor told me to undergo treatment. I followed what my doctor said. I took my medication for two months and my doctor prescribed me Fixcom 4, after two months my doctor changed my medicine to Fixcom 3. i took my follow-up medication for 4months. after 6months medication, my physician requested me to do chest xray again and it showed Fibroid PTB in the right upper lobe of undetermined activity then i undergone sputum test for 3consecutive days. The result of sputum is negative. My doctor told me that im cured already. Here is my question: I had my chest x-ray last september 2011 from another clinic and the doctor told me that there's something on my x-ray. i was then told to do sputum for 3consecutive days. after 3days the result is negative-negative-negative. I still must wait for 2months for the culture results. what do you think would be the results? im super worried about it. please help. thank you and Godbless!!!

Pathologist and Microbiologist, Dr. Jyothi B L's Response
Hi, Thanks for asking. Based on your query, my opinion is as follows. 1. Usually in case of previous Koch, Koch is first one suspected again. 2. I think the results should be negative as you had completed the treatment. 3. You can also get a adenosine deaminase test (ADA enzyme test) in the mean time. If negative, very helpful in ruling out Koch. Hope it helps. Any further queries, happy to help again.
