What Could Be Wrong Having Fever Continuously With No Cold And Slight Swelling Of Jaw Bone On Left Side?
Hi I'm wondering about my daughter. She is 21 months old. She has had a fever since Wednesday morning-this is her 4th day. She has no obvious symtoms..like no cough or cold, hasn't pulled on her ears at all. She eats a little bit and drinks. She usually perks up when she's on tylenol or advil but just for a short time..before it's time to give more she already is listless and her eyes are blah and she just wants to lie with her blanket. When I pick her up she winces as if she's in pain but i don't know where. My husband just noticed it's swollen by her jaw bone/throat, especially on her left side. She almost cried when he touched her there and it obviously hurts there. What should I do? I've been giving her tylenol and advil alternately since Wednesday morning. I haven't been taking her temperature every time I give her medicine but i know she has a fever because she's hot and panting and her eyes have lost their twinkle and they are half shut. It is abnormal for her to even have a fever. In fact I don't remember the last time she did. She doesn't get fevers when she teethes..she's normaly a very happy girl..she popped out 4 molars and eye teeth without me realizing she was teething.
Fever and swelling suggests that the child is apparently suffering from either mumps or, an abscess of the gums underlying the erupting molars. She will need anti-viral drug or a course of antibiotics, as the case may be.
