What Could Cause Anemia And Elevated Liver Enzymes?

Male, age 41. Takes Synthroid due to previous complete distruction of thryroid gland. Just received routine blood work back (to monitor Synthroid dosage adequacy)...anemia and elevated liver enzymes found. Can this this be due to thyroid hormone replacement? Is more likely cause, gallbladder? Previous diagnosis of gallbladder "sludge". No history of stones.

Hello and welcome to HCM,
In in order to assess the efficacy of thyroid hormone replacement, you need to get thyroid function tests done.
If the thyroid function test are within normal range, the thyroid hormone replacement is good enough.
The anemia and elevated liver enzymes are due to other causes.
You need to get a complete hemogram and peripheral blood examination to know the reason of anemia.
Elevated liver enzymes are caused due to damage to the liver cells or the hepatocytes.
The damage can be due to infection especially viral infection, drugs, toxins, etc.
Elevated liver enzymes do not reflect any gall bladder disease.
Sludge in gall bladder is precipitation of secretions in bladder.
This does not suggest gall stones.

You need to consult your doctor with reports for hemogram and investigations for liver studies.
An ultrasound of the abdomen is required to look for any organomegaly.

Thanks and take care
