Hi,I am Dr. Subhankar Chakraborty (Gastroenterologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My nine year old daughter had blood tests done and she has a cholesterol level of 195 and LDL of 118. Her liver enzymes were high 35 and her doctor is redoing her liver function tests in a month. Can high cholesterol be causing her liver enzymes to be high? She had diarrhea for two days about a month ago, other than that she is fine. She had a rectal polyp removed at 5 months old. My doctor said maybe a virus could have caused her liver enzymes to be high. Should I be concerned something more serious is going on?
Hello. High cholesterol per se doesn't elevate liver enzymes, but it can be associated with a condition called fatty liver which does. Nothing to serious since it can be treated with a low fat/low cholesterol diet. The mononucleosis virus can elevate liver enzymes for a certain time
